Westhaven Foundation College Scholarship Committee news
FRANKLIN, TN - The Westhaven Foundation College Scholarship Committee recently awarded its first ever College Scholarship. The 2009 recipient was Franklin High School Graduate and Westhaven resident, Jared Sullivan.
The mission of the Westhaven Foundation College Scholarship Committee is to identify Westhaven resident students that most exemplify the spirit of the Westhaven community through their demonstrated efforts in the areas of activism, civic involvement and charity and reward them through scholarship awards for these non-academic efforts while furthering their education.
The 2009 award was $1,000, and was awarded to Jared, who is now a college freshman at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. “The quality of the 2009 candidates was very strong, and it really was a difficult decision”, said Matthew Magallanes, 2009 Scholarship Committee Chair. “It is central to our mission to encourage young people to get involved. Jared’s exceptional dedication to volunteerism and his broad approach to community involvement led to his selection.”
The Westhaven Foundation is an independent nonprofit 501c3 organization established in 2007 by the residents of Westhaven with support from Southern Land Company to promote lifelong learning, leadership, preservation, philanthropy and environmental awareness within Westhaven and the greater Franklin community. Funding is made possible by the generous donations of Westhaven homebuyers and donations made at various community events and fundraisers.
