Matt Magallanes, Westhaven Foundation Scholarship Committee Chair
Will you have a young adult attending their freshman year of college this January? If so, they may be interested in applying for the 2009 College Scholarship from your Westhaven Foundation.
The mission of the Westhaven Foundation College Scholarship Committee is to identify Westhaven resident students that most exemplify the spirit of the Westhaven community through their demonstrated efforts in the areas of activism, civic involvement and charity and reward them through scholarship awards for these non-academic efforts and furthering their education. The 2009 award is $1,000 , and will be given to one freshman college student who has demonstrated a high degree of volunteerism along with strong community involvement, and is continuing their education at an accredited college or university.
While the Scholarship has no academic requirements, a GPA of 2.7 is desired to demonstrate potential success in college. The 2009 Scholarship will be awarded to an individual starting college in January, 2010, or continuing their freshman year of college in the January, 2010 semester. (Please note that our separate 2010 Scholarship application will be released in early March of 2010 for high school seniors graduating high school in 2010 and starting college in the fall of 2010.)
All applications and required attachments must be returned to the Westhaven Foundation Scholarship Coordinator by Friday, December 18th, 2009. The recipient will be notified by January 5, 2010. The 2009 award will be paid directly to the student’s selected school in January 2010.
It is a primary goal of the Foundation to support education excellence in Westhaven at all levels, from kindergarten to college. Funding is made possible by the generous donations of Westhaven home buyers and the donations you make at the various community events and fundraisers we sponsor.
Applications may be downloaded from the Westhaven Foundation web site: www.westhavenfoundation.org Copies will also be at the activities counter at the Westhaven Resident’s Club.
We look forward to hearing from your students!
